Hi gys.
Well i thought i had this one sorted out.But i can’t seem to solo safe anything.
Here’s the go. i have my cursor tracking on. i am in the mix window, i’ve interacted with the track, found the solo button, hit vo command f 5. then i hit command and the left mouse button, nothing is happening. I may be moving the mouse, but i don’t think so. one strange thing is, after hitting vo command f 5, i then hit vo f 5 and it did not tell me the solo button was under the mouse. How ever i have not used that key stroke before, so don’t know if it ever did in yosemetees.
Any thoughts guys.

Two things you might want to check is whether you have any other open windows. Use Control-Option-f2 f2 to bring up a list of open windows. Make sure you only have the Mix or Mix and Edit windows open. Also, Use Control-Option-f1 f1 to make sure you don't have system dialogs or notifications blocking your access. Further, you might try zooming the Mix window and, finally, select the scroll to track function from the Tracks menu. With mouse pointer following the VoiceOver cursor, you should be able to perform the physical click.

Good point. Keep in mind that VoiceOver sometimes "sees" things that aren't actually displayed on screen. For example, some items that are hidden within collapsed areas in certain windows.

Also, of course, having a control surface is where this stuff just isn't an issue.

Unless it's changed recently, you can just hold down the modifier
you'd use when clicking the mouse whilst pressing the button on the
relevant channel strip of the control surface. It's neat.

I will have to try that out. It is such a pain to go through trying to identify tracks and busses when mixing, having to select and solo this and that cramps the work flow at times.

Hi,
question.
I am near to buy the proTools software and also a controlService.
My eyes lay on the controlservice of Icon, the pro, witch is expenabel up to 32 tracks or channels.
I am thinking of buying this one.
Are there on this list any tips for do's and dont's when it comes to controlers?
I know Behringer is coming soon with one also, so I maybe will wait until I can see its features.
And what about the screen for edit and mix windows in ProTools?
Since I will do all the work myself and am as blind as can be smiley, can I have one 24 inch full Hd screen for an ocasional visitor or enginear, will that fit there needs?

Hi Mac,

You mention the Icon but I think you're possibly mistaken. I've seen Icon surfaces in the $100,000 range. You might be thinking of some other surface. At any rate, the Artist series is probably the best for Pro Tools in the $1500 range. From there, you can go up to a C|24 or S3 or S6 but those will range from $5,000 to $20,000. I suspect you're looking in the lower price range.

A 24-inch screen is plenty for use with Pro Tools, especially if it's for occasional use.

Ah, totally different from the Avid Icon surface. The Company name is Icon and I see that the surface is called the iControl.

I didn't see any mention of Pro Tools compatibility specifically but it appears to have HUI emulation so it'll probably work. I guess it depends upon whether you want great integration and functionality with Pro Tools only or whether you need to use it with other dAWs and have some integration with Pro Tools.

Hi Mac,
You mention the Icon but I think you're possibly mistaken.
A 24-inch screen is plenty for use with Pro Tools, especially if it's for occasional use.

yes it is a slog mixing with out a surface in p t. i did my first mix that way to learn a few things. But give me my mackie m c u pro. Works great with p t.

True, true. Editing in PT is fairly doable, but I should think mixing
without a surface would be a slog.
Post by Poppa Bear
I will have to try that out. It is such a pain to go through trying to
identify tracks and busses when mixing, having to select and solo this and
that cramps the work flow at times.

Unless it's changed recently, you can just hold down the modifier you'd use
when clicking the mouse whilst pressing the button on the relevant channel
strip of the control surface. It's neat.

Good point. Keep in mind that VoiceOver sometimes "sees" things that
aren't actually displayed on screen. For example, some items that are
hidden within collapsed areas in certain windows.
Also, of course, having a control surface is where this stuff just isn't an issue.

try hiding the tracks you don't want to change anything on and give

Hi gys.
Well i thought i had this one sorted out.But i can't seem to solo
safe anything.
Here's the go. i have my cursor tracking on. i am in the mix window,
i've interacted with the track, found the solo button, hit vo command f 5.
then i hit command and the left mouse button, nothing is happening.
I may be moving the mouse, but i don't think so. one strange thing
is, after hitting vo command f 5, i then hit vo f 5 and it did not
tell me the solo button was under the mouse. How ever i have not
used that key stroke before, so don't know if it ever did in yosemetees.
Any thoughts guys.

All modifiers work with surfaces for global commands. So, selecting, soloing, record enabling, etc. can all be done by holding the appropriate modifier and pressing the function button.

Then i solo safe 4 tracks in succession, and could not get it working again an hour later. so i’ll try hiding the tracks next time, or i’ll try the surface.
